Let’s Ignite Toastmasters! Bringing New Ideas to Life!

Submitted by Melanie K

On October 2nd, a small and mighty group of Toastmasters met at St. Augustine’s Anglican Church to bring new ideas to life (light). Distinguished guests and District Director Glenn Walker were in attendance.  Facilitator Melanie Kruger provided participants with a quick overview of what ideation is, why it’s important and then dove into two exercises to test their mental muscles through experiential learning!
Participants generated new ideas through participating in various techniques to expand and go beyond the regular, rational thinking brain to identify bigger picture, big thinking ideas. Participants were split into three ‘star’ groups and covered topics such as: best case scenario for District 99, creating a Toastmasters elevator pitch, identifying what we know/don’t know, and accomplishing the impossible, identifying how to double Toastmaster membership in Edmonton in one day. Some mighty ideas here.
were delivered. A huge thank you to everyone for your participation and to the volunteers who without your dedicated assistance, this workshop would not have been possible. To access the results, resources, video (see slide 5) and presentation, either check out Lingo’s website under public downloads or click

Guests are warmly welcome to attend our next meeting, “Quest for Excellence” on October 16 at 7:00 pm at our usual location, Riverbend Retirement Living by Revera (103 Rabbit Hill Court).
