Lingo TM Annual Holiday Party!!

Lingo Advanced Communicators had their Annual Holiday Party last Tuesday, Dec 6 at Sandman Signature Hotel which we were served with Chop Menu item.  The room was spacious and private which was perfect for us to host our dinner party.  We had a great attendance and guests this evening despite the cold weather outside!

Our Division Governor, Dave Cartledge was also present.  He drove all the way from Red Deer to attend our celebration.   He also presented the Advanced Communicator Bronze award to Melanie!  Congrats to Melanie!!! and  Thank you Dave for being there with us!!

We started the party with Seann Haver and Melanie Kruger's Talent show, the person can either

1. Sing Christmas Songs
2. Tell Christmas Stories
3. Tell Christmas Jokes

We really do have talented members singing and telling Christmas stories which were quite enjoyable and touching.  Thanks to everyone, I did capture all the clips which I will post later on in this article.  This was very well received and a great way of entertainment before dinner!

Dinner was delicious! Really good food from Chop!

Following Dinner, we had Table Topics.  How can a Toastmasters event without Table Topics!
Robin Changarathil was our Table Topic Master, he came out with good holiday questions for our members.  We all voted for the best Table Topic speaker!

Before we announced the winners for both the Best Talent Member and Best Table Topic speaker, we had our President Edith Baraniecki to send her greetings and announcements.

The winner for the best Talent show goes to Robin Changarathil, Will have to listen to his winning Christmas story when he was in Korea.

The winner for the best Table Topics goes to Peter Kolotyluk who were asked a question whether we should be using Merry Christmas vs other way of greeting such as Season's Greetings.  Peter, the usual, him, just "don't care".

Congrats to both of you!

Peter ended with a lovely dance with our hostess at the hotel.. beautiful!

Thanks and Wish everyone a Happy Holidays!  See you in the New Year!

Please stay tune for more photos and videos to be posted here!

Lingo Meeting: The US Election: Finally Over

Our November meeting was a great example of "acquiescence" (knock, knock as tracked by Robin C) as the seven members present and our honored guest Area Director Dan M readily filled roles to ensure we had a successful meeting led by Toastmaster Bob B. Our theme was "The US election: Finally over." Melanie K as Sgt at Arms and snackmaster gave us some history on our Toastmasters' long toastmaster career.

Darryl gave us a dramatic speech from the Entertaining Speaker Advanced Manual about the memories he had when he visited with his mother on a blustery day at the graveside of his grandparents in Melville, Saskatchewan. His evaluators, Edith B re the objectives, Melanie K the "eyes" evaluator and Robin C the "ears" evaluator spoke positively of his speech and suggested a few more pictures would have even mesmerized us more.

Rick L led our Table topics session, which was brought to us by the number 2 and the letter Y, asking us for two reasons and to state why about various aspects of the Trump/Clinton campaign.  Our responses were evaluated by duel role Timer and Table Topics Evaluator Kerrianne K-M to be quite balanced.  Robin won best Table topics when he spoke about the positives of one candidate - guess who?

Area Director/General Evaluator Dan spoke about his warm welcome but said he missed a printed agenda to keep us all on track.  However, we did squeeze a business meeting in where we approved the budget and decided to hold our seasonal celebration on December 6th as planned by Wendy due to no meeting venue for that date. December 20th will be a regular meeting at the Riverbend Library.  It may be a good time to give that speech or educational you wanted to give before the new year.  We will not have a January 3rd meeting but are hoping to hold an Open House on January 17th.  Stay tuned.

Be sure to sign up as facilitator/Toastmaster for a workshop and/or meeting in 2017 and bring guests. Let's make 2017 the year we really shine and reach our goal of 20 members.

Area B51 Humourous Speech and Table Topic Contest - Robin Changarathil CC CL

Thursday, October 6, 2016

Robin represented Lingo Advanced Communicators in competing at the Area 51 Contest and Placed 2nd!!

I attended the area 51 speech contest on October 6, and it was a very nice evening!

It was very well organized by the the Golden Mountain and ToastMAPSters clubs, with delicious food and a beautiful room!

I’m a bit envious of the ToastMAPsters club, as they get exclusive use of the Alberta Pensions Services building in Windermere, which has a perfect boardroom for their weekly meetings! Not to mention that it is 3 minutes from my house!

It was a full house, with a few having to sit in the very back. There were many in attendance. I met several Toastmasters I knew from previous Toastmaster events, and also met many new members.

The humorous speech contest was very entertaining, with 4 memorable and funny speeches. The winner of the humorous contest is a very new Toastmaster, but is a natural when it comes to humour!

The Table Topics contest had 7 participants, with the question relating to our journey as Toastmasters.

It was an excellent experience and would like to thank the organizers for such a well-run event!
